UPDATE: ITD cancels overnight westbound I-84 closures near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department has cancelled the westbound Interstate 84 closure near the Orchard Interchange that had been planned for tonight and Tuesday (June 29 and 30).
The closure would have allowed crews to place girders on the new concrete pier caps (vertical support structure).
The cancellation allows additional time for the concrete in the pier caps to set up properly, and as they set up, to increase in strength and durability. The delay allows the pier caps to gain the proper strength.
ITD will reschedule the girder placement once the necessary strength is achieved.
The girders are placed on the pier cap, which sets atop the vertical columns.
