Expect overnight lane closures on I-84 at Orchard Interchange this week (July 6-10) and July 13
BOISE - Overnight lane closures will be in place on east- and westbound Interstate 84 at the Orchard Interchange all week (Monday through Friday, July 6-10) and next Monday (July 13), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

 -   On Monday (July 6), lane closures will be in place overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. as survey crews verify that the new off-ramps are even. Motorists should expect an east- or westbound lane to be closed.

 -   On Tuesday and Wednesday (July 7-8), westbound I-84 will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews place girders.

-    On Thursday, Friday, and Monday (July 9-10 & 13), eastbound I-84 will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to place girders.

Flaggers will direct traffic each night. Drivers will exit and re-enter I-84 using the on-and off-ramps at the Orchard Street Interchange.

In addition, one lane will be closed in each direction on Orchard Street each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to mobilize equipment during girder placement.

Motorists are advised to watch for flaggers, survey equipment and workers on the interstate.

The Idaho Transportation Department is building a new bridge and ramps to replace the Orchard Interchange, which was constructed in 1969. The new structure will make way for additional lanes underneath on I-84.

Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2010.

Traffic updates will be posted to www.itd.idaho.gov under Projects, Southwest Idaho and I-84, Orchard Street Interchange. Updates also can be accessed via Twitter at www.twitter.com/IdahoITD.

The Orchard Interchange project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
