Overnight lane restrictions scheduled July 12-22 on I-84 near the Vista Avenue Interchange
BOISE - Motorists should expect overnight lane restrictions on I-84 starting Sunday night (July 12) and continuing through July 22, as the Idaho Transportation Department's reconstruction of the Vista Avenue Interchange begins.

Crews will widen and pave the passing lanes on east- and westbound I-84 at the Vista Avenue Interchange to accommodate future traffic shifts. Work will be done nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The project is located off I-84 near the Boise Airport.

The I-84 Vista Avenue Interchange, constructed in 1969, is being reconstructed to ease congestion, increase safety and improve traffic flow.

Improvements include a Single Point Urban design, which places a traffic light at the center and allows for protected left turns in each direction. The new interchange will have two through lanes in each direction and dual left-turn lanes. On- and off-ramps will be widened and lengthened to improve traffic flow. A new bridge also will accommodate additional lanes on I-84.

Construction is expected to be complete in September 2010.

The contractor for the $17.8 million project is Central Paving Co. Inc.

Construction on the project is funded through a federal stimulus program, part of the national American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The program was created to generate jobs and help boost Idaho's economy while upgrading the state's transportation system.
