Weiser bridge to close overnight Wednesday to Thursday (July 29-30)
WEISER
- The Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists traveling near the
reconstruction of the bridge in Weiser to be aware of a six-hour overnight closure at the
bridge from midnight Wednesday (July 29) to 6 a.m. Thursday (July 30).
The Snake River Bridge on the U.S. 95 Spur in Weiser is being replaced with a
wider structure. The bridge connects Annex, Ore., to Weiser.
Crews will be pouring the foundations for the new bridge.
Signs are set up on the Oregon side of the bridge to announce the closure.
Additional signage will be set up during the closure on both the Oregon and
Idaho side of the bridge to announce the closure. Flaggers will also be
stationed on both sides of the bridge to direct traffic.
Motorists are advised to detour through Payette via either U.S. 95 or Oregon
Highway 201.
Over the next few months, there will be intermittent overnight closures to
accommodate additional concrete pours.
Work on the overall project is about 70 percent complete.
The original bridge was built in 1903, with an additional span added in 1911.
Traffic signals were added in 1949. The bridge was replaced in the 1950s -
that's the one being replaced in this project. Once completed, the bridge will
be 16 feet wider and able to carry greater traffic volumes. The highway on both
sides of the bridge also will be reconstructed.
Sletten Construction of Boise is the contractor on this $10 million project.
The project is expected to be completed by winter. It originally was slated for
completion in 2010, but crews are ahead of schedule.
