Traffic accident closes Interstate 15 three miles southwest of Shelley
RIGBY ‑ A traffic accident on southbound Interstate 15 three miles southwest of Shelley prompted the closure of the southbound lanes this afternoon (Tuesday, July 28), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

A semi tractor‑trailer rig struck a travel trailer being pulled by a van at about 2:45 p.m. The driver of the van had pulled onto the shoulder of the travel lane to change a tire.

The extent of injuries to travelers in the vehicles is unknown.

Traffic is being detoured from exit 108 on southbound I‑15 to the old U.S. 91 in Shelley and then south to Blackfoot and onto I‑15.

The transportation department estimates crews will reopen the interstate by 5:15 p.m.  Officials closed the highway at 3 p.m.

Another accident this morning in eastern Idaho involving a bicycle and a motor home resulted in a fatality. The accident occurred east of Tetonia on Idaho 33.

The transportation department reminds motorists to slow down and be attentive.

After impact, the semi continued off the shoulder across state right of way and into a potato field, where it overturned. The truck was hauling grain.
