Traffic shift scheduled for tonight (July 29) on Orchard Street
BOISE
- The Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists to drive with caution
tonight (Wednesday, July 29) when traffic is shifted to the west side of Orchard Street
between the westbound ramps and Malad Street. Malad is on the north side of the interchange, near Hertz Car Sales.
Crews
will set construction barrels and restripe the area between 10 p.m. Wednesday
(July 29) and 5 a.m. Thursday (July 30).
One
lane in each direction on Orchard Street will be open with flaggers directing
motorists at the intersections.
The
traffic shift will be in place for about a month, until Aug. 26.
During
the traffic shift, two lanes will be open in each direction on Orchard Street.
There will be no center turn lane.
The
traffic shift allows crews to install new curb, gutter, sidewalk and pavement
on the east side of Orchard Street.
Construction is
expected to be complete in spring 2010.
The $15.1
million Orchard Street Interchange project is funded through the GARVEE
Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE)
bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution
motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where
increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to
plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state
highway or interstate system.
