Project to improve Idaho 5 in St. Maries to begin Monday (Aug. 3)
COEUR D'ALENE - A local road project to improve safety on Idaho 5 at the west end of St. Maries is set to begin Monday (Aug. 3), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 11.

Crews will install new curb, gutter and sidewalk, storm drains and will widen the shoulders of the roadway.   There will be one-lane traffic restrictions Monday through Friday during work hours (6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.). Travel lanes will be restricted to nine-foot widths in both directions. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone area.

The project also will require the closure of several city streets at the intersections with Idaho 5. They include Idaho Street, 22nd Street, Hawthorn Street and Center Street. Traffic will be detoured around those intersections.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
