Chinden traffic delays are a concern to ITD and motorists
BOISE - In response to the concerns of motorists about a seal coat project on Chinden Boulevard, the Idaho Transportation Department is taking steps to alleviate delays, including limiting the time flaggers stop traffic and scheduling the work to minimize traffic interruptions at major intersections and during commute times.
Crews are finishing gravel work on Chinden from the Connector ramp on the far east end of the road to 50th Street. Beginning tomorrow (August 5), they will proceed west from 50th at about a mile and a quarter each day, ending at Eagle Road by next week.
Seal coating begins by applying a layer of asphalt and then a cover coat of gravel on the roadway surface. The highway is rolled and traffic allowed on to the roadway to help pack the surface before "brooming" or sweeping to remove excess gavel.
The work is done during the day because the heat helps the asphalt bond to the roadway surface.
Snake River Construction of Twin Falls is the contractor on this $1.4 million
project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
