Railroad crossing improvement will close portion of Idaho 39 northeast of American Falls Aug. 31
AMERICAN FALLS -- A railroad crossing improvement project on Idaho 39 will require closure of the highway between American Falls and Blackfoot, beginning Aug. 31, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Removal of existing wooden planks at the crossing and installation of new concrete slabs is expected to take three days. The route should reopen Sept. 2.
Traffic will be diverted from the highway near milepost 35 and will use South 1700 West and West 700 South. Signs will mark the detour route. The additional travel time should be minimal.
ITD will remove a small portion of the asphalt on both sides of the crossing to ensure a smooth highway transition. Cost of the improvement project is about $64,000.
