Orchard, Victory alert: traffic shift begins Monday night (Aug. 31)

BOISE -  Motorists on Orchard Street and Victory Road should drive with care Monday night (Aug. 31) when traffic shifts are scheduled to start on both roads. Both shifts begin at 9 p.m. and are part of the Idaho Transportation Department's project to rebuild the Orchard Interchange.

Orchard Street south of Interstate 84 will have two lanes available southbound and one lane northbound. Northbound traffic will use two lanes after the Wright Street intersection. Southbound motorists driving larger vehicles especially commercial trucks should stay in the left lane. Motorists traveling to Victory Road should stay in the right lane. This traffic shift is expected to be in place through late fall.

Traffic also will be shifted onto the new Victory Road on Monday night. One lane will be open in each direction through 5 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 3), when two lanes will be open in each direction.

The $15.1 million Orchard Street Interchange project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2010.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
