Holiday Travelers: Be aware of traffic shifts and detours on I-84
BOISE - Heading out of town for Thanksgiving? Flying to see the folks for the holidays? The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) wants your trip to be both safe and hassle free, especially if your itinerary necessitates travel along construction-heavy Interstate 84 in the Treasure Valley.

Several major construction milestones will occur over the next few weeks. All will involve traffic impacts during the busy holiday season:
  • On Monday and Tuesday nights (November 23-24), flaggers will direct traffic overnight starting at 10 p.m. as crews pave the new overpass at Vista Avenue. All Vista traffic will be switched onto the new bridge by Wednesday (Nov. 25) at 5 a.m. This is important information for travelers coming and going from the Boise Airport during one of the heaviest travel times of the year.
  • The old Vista Bridge is set to be demolished in early December to make way for the new interchange, during which the interstate will be closed overnight under the interchange for six nights.
  • Later in December, the Ten Mile Overpass will be taken apart to make way for a new interchange.
Along with this, I-84 also will have intermittent overnight traffic restrictions from Cole to Broadway as the project to widen the freeway continues. Work on the Orchard Street Interchange also continues, and could impact holiday travel as well.

MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES are invited to be the first to step onto the new Vista Interchange Bridge on Friday (November 20) between 10:30 a.m. and noon. ITD staff will be on hand to answer questions about the traffic impacts and provide information packets.
Please call June Sparks (334-8003) or Reed Hollinshead (334-8881) to reserve a time slot and get directions into the area reserved for media. Closed-toe shoes are required. Hard hats and safety vests will be provided.
