Additional highway projects funded with federal stimulus savings
BOISE - Seven additional shovel-ready highway projects will be constructed with federal stimulus savings, the Idaho Transportation Board decided Thursday (Aug. 20). More than $50 million in bid savings were realized on the first eight highway stimulus projects advertised this spring. The transportation board, at its July meeting, dedicated $15.8 million in savings to expand a section of U.S. 95 north of Hayden from two lanes to four. At Thursday's meeting in Rigby, the transportation board dedicated the remaining stimulus savings to the following projects: HighwayType of projectEstimated cost I-90bridge rehabilitation $4.4 million U.S. 95pavement rehabilitation$6 million Grangeville area Idaho 9pavement overlay$2.23 million Latah County U.S. 95, Idaho 7bridge rehabilitation$1 million I-84concrete rehabilitation$10 million Canyon County I-15pavement rehabilitation$10 million Bannock County I- 15, northboundpavement rehabilitation$2.17 Bonneville County "Designating the remaining stimulus savings to improving the condition of our pavements and bridges makes sense," said Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Darrell Manning. "With more than one in five miles of Idaho's highway pavements being in poor condition, the transportation board made the right decision." It is estimated the additional nine stimulus projects funded with the savings will create or sustain 900 jobs. The projects will be advertised for contractors to bid on this fall. Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2010. For more information on the project, visit the transportation department web site at itd.idaho.gov and click accountability.
