Automobile crash knocks out major traffic signal in Sandpoint
COEUR D'ALENE - A mid-morning automobile crash knocked out a major traffic signal on U.S. 95 in Sandpoint, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The control box for the signal at Fifth and Cedar (U.S. 95 through Sandpoint) was severely damaged, causing the signal system to go down.

The signal is currently running in flashing red mode, and temporary stop signs have been posted at the intersection.  Message signs warning motorists about delays have been set up on U.S. 95, at the north and south entrances to Sandpoint.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel through downtown Sandpoint due to increased congestion in the area.

Repairs are expected to take about 10 days.
