Speed/weight restrictions now in place on state highways in northern Idaho due to freeze/thaw cycles

COEUR D'ALENE - Speed and weight restrictions have been placed on some state highways in northern Idaho due to the recent freeze/thaw cycles the region has been experiencing, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.  Some asphalt surfaces are showing signs of stress because of the freezing and thawing of the road base.

Restrictions are in place for the following state highways

-  Idaho 3, from Hells Gulch Road (M.P. 95.122) to Jct I-90 (M.P. 117.68)

-   Idaho 3 from Latah/Shoshone County line to Benewah/Shoshone County line (M.P. 48.236 to M.P. 58)

-   Idaho 200 from Jct U.S. 95/Idaho 200 to the Montana State Line (M.P. 29.73 to M.P. 63.12)

-   Idaho 57 from Priest River to Nordman (M.P. 0.0 to M.P. 37.23)

-   U.S. 2 from Old Town to Sandpoint (M.P. 0.0 to M.P. 28.52)

Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight of 10,000 lbs. or more will be restricted to 30 mph and 16,000 lbs. per axle, or legal axle weight, whichever is less.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
