Shoshone North project to be delayed for year; I-86 surfacing job takes its place
SHOSHONE - The eight-mile reconstruction project to Idaho 75 north of Shoshone is expected to be delayed for about a year, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The transportation department will request an amendment to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to delay the project to fiscal year 2011 to allow for a re-evaluation of the wetland delineation. The delineation complies with the Federal Highway Administration and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers' requirements for wetland impacts. The project is currently scheduled in the STIP for construction this year.
ITD will complete delineation of the wetlands throughout the project area this spring and will resubmit project plans for construction following approval by the Federal Highway Administration and Army Corp of Engineers, expected as soon as next winter.
As currently planned, the Idaho 75-Shoshone North project will construct two new lanes from the north Shoshone city limit to near Mammoth Cave and includes new bridges over the Milner-Gooding Canal, Big Wood River and North Gooding Canal.
A pavement rehabilitation project on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 86 between the I-84/I-86 junction and the Raft River interchange will be advanced from 2011 to 2010 to take the place of the Shoshone North project in the 2010 funding year.
