Installation of new traffic signal at Washington and Orchard to begin this week in Twin Falls
TWIN FALLS -  The construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Washington Street and Orchard Drive on Idaho 74 is beginning this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will be working primarily outside of the roadway during the early stages of construction, which has already begun. Crews will be excavating and setting foundations for the traffic signal poles before the installation of the posts and poles begins. Work is expected to be complete by the end of April.

Drivers should be prepared for lane restrictions and short delays during regular work hours. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and be mindful of workers and equipment.

The new signal will not include any improvements to the roadway, but will provide reconstruction of three corners with new curb and gutter in addition to the new signal. The intersection fulfilled a warrant based on traffic volumes and delays for east-west traffic.

Kleopfer Paving, Inc., of Burley is the contractor for the $225,000 federally-funded project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
