Installation of new traffic signal to begin next week in Jerome
JEROME - The construction of a new traffic signal on South Lincoln on the Interstate 84 eastbound off ramp is expected to begin middle of next week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Installation of the new signal will improve safety, reduce congestion and incorporate improvements to the roadway, including widening of the off ramp and pedestrian crossings.

Crews will be working primarily outside of the roadway during the early stages of construction. Crews will be excavating and setting foundations for the traffic signal poles before the installation of the posts and poles begins.

Work is expected to begin mid-week with completion projected by the end of April.

Drivers should be prepared for lane restrictions and short delays during regular work hours. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and be mindful of workers and equipment.

Kleopfer Inc., of Burley, is the contractor for the $265,000 federally-funded project. Work will coincide with installation of a traffic signal on Washington Street and Orchard Drive in Twin Falls, for which Kloepfer Inc. also is the prime contractor.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
