Washington Street North closes on Sunday
TWIN FALLS - Irrigation work on north Washington Street will require the street's closure between Shoup and Heyburn avenues on Sunday (March 7), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will excavate and install an irrigation culvert in the area beginning at about 8 a.m. Sunday. Installation of the culvert is expected to be complete on Sunday. All traffic will be required to find an alternate route.
When Sunday's work is complete, traffic will return to one lane of travel in each direction, which will be maintained through the remainder of construction.
The reconstruction will tie together widened sections of roadway near the intersections at Addison and Filer avenues. The widened section will include a storm water drainage system, center median with left turn bays and new sidewalk. Construction is expected to be complete by mid-June.
Drivers are reminded to use extreme caution in the work zone, watch for workers and equipment and follow all traffic control signs. No left turns are allowed throughout the construction zone.
Gordon Paving, of Twin Falls, is the contractor for the $1.7 million project sponsored by the city of Twin Falls. The federally-funded project is administered by ITD.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
