Eastbound I-84 will be closed Friday and Saturday nights (March 26-27) for Ten Mile Interchange construction
BOISE - Motorists traveling on Garrity headed for the interstate or already going east on I-84 should be aware of a detour on Friday and Saturday nights (March 26 & 27). The Idaho Transportation Department will close eastbound I-84 overnight for construction at the Ten Mile Interchange.
Starting at 10
p.m. both nights, all eastbound lanes will be closed between the Garrity and
Meridian interchanges.
Flaggers will direct
motorists to exit at Garrity, travel north on Idaho Center Boulevard, east on
Franklin and south on Meridian Road to re-enter eastbound I-84. Click here for a map of the detour.
The closure will
end at 7 a.m.
Because the
Garrity Interchange is also under construction, northbound Garrity Boulevard
may be congested during the detour.
During the
closure, crews will construct a 200-foot-wide temporary bridge across I-84 at
Ten Mile Road. The temporary bridge, called falsework, will support the future
Ten Mile Interchange bridge during construction.
The interchange
will help relieve congestion at the Garrity Interchange and local roads in
Meridian. Three miles away, the Garrity Interchange is being widened to hold
additional lanes on I-84.
Both projects
are expected to be completed in Summer 2011.
ITD and the
Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when
driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties
apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit
511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
