UPDATE: Eastbound I-84 will be closed Friday and Saturday nights (March 26-27) for Ten Mile Interchange construction

BOISE - To accommodate a large number of eastbound interstate travelers leaving the Idaho Center at around 10 p.m. (the time the closure was originally slated for), the Idaho Transportation Department has delayed the time of the Friday night (March 26) eastbound I-84 closure until 11 p.m.

On Friday night, all eastbound I-84 lanes will be closed between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

On Saturday (March 27) starting at 10 p.m., all eastbound lanes will again be closed in the same area. The closure will end at 7 a.m.

Flaggers will direct motorists to exit at Garrity, travel north on Idaho Center Boulevard, east on Franklin and south on Meridian Road to re-enter eastbound I-84. Click here for a map of the detour.

"There may be close to 9,000 people getting out of an event at the Idaho Center at 10 p.m. Friday, so we pushed our closure start time back to 11 p.m. to accommodate the mass of eastbound interstate travelers at that time," said ITD project manager Tom Haynes. "We plan our closures to impact the fewest number of motorists, and regularly work with surrounding destinations, like the Idaho Center, to achieve that."

During the closure, crews will construct a 200-foot-wide temporary bridge across I-84 at Ten Mile Road. The temporary bridge, called falsework, will support the future Ten Mile Interchange bridge during construction.

The interchange will help relieve congestion at the Garrity Interchange and local roads in Meridian. The Ten Mile Interchange is expected to be complete in Summer 2011.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
