BURLEY - Preliminary work for an Interstate 84 rehabilitation project between Burley and the I-84/I-86 junction begins Monday (March 29), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will begin construction of median cross-over ramps at several locations between mileposts 207 and 222. The preliminary work will last about four weeks leading into I-84 reconstruction. The reconstruction of about 15 miles of interstate will begin about the beginning of May is expected to last through September.
During the preliminary work, travelers in both directions should expect closures of the left lane throughout the project zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 65 mph and there is a 14-foot width restriction.
The construction zone is actually two separate projects, but should appear seamless to drivers. Knife River Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the section between Burley and Declo interchanges (milepost 207 to 216) at a cost of $12.8 million. Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company, of Draper, Utah, is the contractor for the section between the Declo interchange (exit 216) and the I-84/I-86 junction at a cost of $9.3 million.
Drivers are reminded to use caution and follow all traffic-control devices throughout the construction zone. Please watch for trucks and construction equipment entering and leaving the work zone during the period of preliminary work.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
