Timmerman Rest Area reconstruction to begin in mid-April
SHOSHONE -- The Timmerman Rest Area will close in mid-April for reconstruction, a project that will take most of the summer, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The Timmerman Rest Area, located at  U.S. 20 and Idaho 75 in Blaine County, is limited in parking area and size. Reconstruction will require closure of the facility to all traffic and parking for the duration of the project.

Improvements to the rest area have been designed to accommodate growth and additional traffic for at least 20 years. Traffic growth on U.S. 20 and Idaho 75 corridors is expected to increase 49 percent and 47 percent respectively over the next two decades.

Among enhancements will be an expanded restroom facility that includes 10 stalls and accommodations for family usage, an expanded and improved parking area, and ADA- (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible parking, ramps and restroom facilities. Also addressed will be improvements to the sanitary sewer and lagoons, as well as enhanced storm water drainage to improve water quality to the adjacent stream.

Barry Hayes Construction of Idaho Falls is the contractor for the $2 million reconstruction. The project is scheduled for completion in September.
