Idaho Falls, Rexburg public meetings will gather comment on pedestrian ramps

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department is holding a public meeting in Idaho Falls and Rexburg next week to develop a transition plan for pedestrian curb ramp improvements in the public right-of-way.

The transition plan, which is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, will identify and prioritize needed pedestrian ramp improvements along state roadways across Idaho. As part of this effort, the transportation department wants input from the public regarding accessible pedestrian ramps and how priorities will be set for future curb ramp improvements.

The transition plan will identify physical obstacles, describe the methods that will be used to achieve compliance, and specify a schedule for curb ramp improvements. Once the transition plan is complete, the transportation department will use it to develop projects to address ADA needs in the public right-of-way and install and upgrade curb ramps according to the schedule and priority list.

The Idaho Falls meeting is on Monday, April 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Idaho Falls City Council Chambers, 680 Park Avenue. A short presentation will be given at 6 p.m. The Rexburg meeting is Tuesday, April 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce, 127 East Main Street. A short presentation will be given at 6 p.m.
