UPDATE: I-84 westbound slab repair from Cloverdale to Meridian to start Tuesday (April 13)
BOISE - Concrete slabs on Interstate 84 between Cloverdale and Meridian roads will be repaired in a project scheduled to begin Tuesday (April 13), announced the Idaho Transportation Department. The project had been delayed because of inclement weather. The material ITD uses must be applied in dry conditions to create a strong bond with the pavement.
The section of I-84 scheduled for repair contains some of the original interstate built in the 1960s.
Normal wear-and-tear has caused the concrete slabs to deteriorate. The repairs extend the life expectancy of the highway and restore a smoother surface for motorists.
Work will begin in the westbound lanes, requiring closure of the two right lanes. The work will continue in the westbound lanes, then reverse directions and finish in the eastbound lanes.
Crews will work between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to accommodate the morning and evening commutes. Work by state maintenance crews will occur Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week until the three-mile stretch is completed.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.
