Lane restrictions to be required on U.S. 95 bridge north of Riggins

LEWISTON - The Idaho Transportation Department will begin a bridge-resurfacing project Monday (April 12) on U.S. 95 between Riggins and Whitebird at milepost 216.  The $850,000 project will result in one-lane width restrictions on the McKinzie Bridge over the Salmon River in Idaho County.

Expected to take 55 days, the project includes the removal of the upper 1.5 inches of the surface and placement of a new concrete overlay on the bridge.  Since traffic will be limited to only one lane of the bridge, construction barrels will be set on the centerline of the bridge to define the travel lane. A traffic signal will be placed at each end of the construction to regulate safe passage after work hours.

A 13-foot width restriction will be required during normal construction hours. Vehicles with loads wider than the standard 14 feet will be permitted after 4 p.m. (PDT) on Mondays and Wednesdays.

During two, week-long placements of new concrete, traffic will be limited to 10-foot widths at all times.  The specific dates will be made available as the time approaches.

ITD reminds motorists to use caution when traveling through highway work zones where additional traffic fines apply.  For the latest information state highway construction projects, call 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov on the Web.
