11th Avenue Bridge replacement over I-84 in Nampa - part of Franklin to Garrity widening - to begin in May
NAMPA - Crews will begin preliminary work to replace the 11th Avenue Bridge over Interstate 84 in Nampa during the coming weeks. The Idaho Transportation Department advises that the bridge is scheduled to close for reconstruction in mid-May, and will remain closed for about four months.
Initial work will include surveying, relocation of utilities,
and the installation of storm-water management measures to contain storm water
on the site.
Reconstruction is required to make room for a project coming later this spring
that will add an additional lane in each direction on I-84 between Franklin
Boulevard and Garrity Boulevard.
Through the work zone, east and westbound I-84 traffic
can expect a reduced speed limit of 55 mph, closed shoulders and periodic
nighttime lane reductions. The interstate will be closed for up to three nonconsecutive nights to allow for demolition of the existing bridge and the
setting of girders for the new bridge.
The exact dates of these closures will be announced once the contractor's schedule is finalized.
Motorists are asked to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones. ITD reminds motorists to dial 5-1-1 or go to the Traveler Services Web site, 511.idaho.gov, to check for updates on highway projects and conditions on the state highway system.
Reconstruction of the 11th Avenue Bridge and I-84 widening are
among several interstate improvements along an 18-mile stretch
of I-84, funded by the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses proceeds
from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle bonds.
McAlvain Civil Constructors, Inc., Boise, is the contractor on this $4.1
million project.
