I-84 Orchard Interchange now open; expect minor restrictions through next week
The Idaho Transportation Department project started April 7, 2009. The typical bridge reconstruction lasts about 18 months.
The project added turn lanes, sidewalks and bicycle lanes, expanded the on-and off-ramps and extended a soundwall along I-84.
Roadways around the interchange also were realigned and improved.
Minor construction activities will continue throughout the next couple of weeks. Crews will finish striping, placing signs and other cleanup activities. This will require some lane restrictions on Orchard Street and shoulder closures on the on-and off-ramps.
Most work will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. McAlvain Group of Companies was the contractor for this $15.1 million project. Construction was funded with GARVEE (Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle) bonds.
