I-84 resurfacing from Burley east to begin Sunday
BURLEY - A major rehabilitation project to improve a section of Interstate 84 between Burley and the I-84/I-86 junction is expected to begin Sunday (May 2) with the beginning of two-way, two-lane traffic, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The approximately 15-mile, full-width rehabilitation project between mileposts 207 to 222 will remove cracking, rutting and potholes, restore the surface smoothness and increase the structural value of the section. Crews will also be performing rehabilitation work to the Heyburn interchange overpass structures at milepost 211.

Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes beginning during the day Sunday. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. A 65-mph speed limit will be posted throughout the construction zone and a 13-foot width limit will be in effect for permitted over-sized loads.

The construction zone is actually two separate projects, but should appear seamless to drivers.

Knife River Corporation Northwest of Boise is the contractor for the section between the Burley and Declo interchanges (milepost 207 to 216) at a cost of $12.8 million, which includes work to the Heyburn overpass interchange (exit 211) . Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company of Draper, Utah is the contractor for the section between the Declo interchange and the I-84/I-86 junction (milepost 216 to 222) at a cost of $9.3 million.

Drivers are urged to follow all traffic-control devices throughout the construction zone. Drivers are reminded to yield to through traffic while entering I-84 and use extreme caution to avoid existing potholing and rutting.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
