Nampa's 11th Avenue Bridge closure begins May 11, overnight demolition on May 14

NAMPA -  Crews will begin a project to reconstruct the 11th Avenue Bridge over Interstate 84 in Nampa, requiring the bridge to close to all traffic beginning the morning of May 11. The bridge will remain closed for approximately four months.

During the four month closure, traffic will be detoured north to Birch Lane, and south to Idaho Center Boulevard/ Garrity Boulevard, (Franklin Boulevard and Garrity intersect with 11th south of I-84). Detours will be posted to assist motorists. Click here to see the detour map.

Once the bridge is closed, crews will dismantle the guardrail, which will be salvaged for future use by the City of Nampa.

On Friday, May 14, crews will demolish the bridge overnight, requiring all I-84 lanes between Garrity and Franklin interchanges to close from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Flaggers will direct interstate travelers to follow detours:

For westbound motorists: exit the interstate at Garrity interchange, travel south on Garrity Boulevard, to the Franklin/Garrity/11th Avenue intersection, then north on Franklin to the interchange to re-enter the interstate.

For eastbound motorists: exit the interstate at the Franklin interchange and use the same detour route in the opposite direction.

Reconstruction of the bridge is required to accommodate future lanes on I-84. Beginning later this spring, a project will add one lane in each direction on I-84 between Franklin and Garrity.

Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling through work zones. ITD reminds motorists to dial 5-1-1 or go to the Traveler Services Web site, 511.idaho.gov, to check for updates on highway projects and conditions on the state highway system.

Reconstruction of the 11th Avenue Bridge and I-84 widening are among several interstate improvements projects occurring in an 18-mile stretch of I-84, funded by the GARVEE Transportation Program.

McAlvain Civil Constructors, Inc., Boise, is the contractor on this $4.1 million project.
