Construction on St. Anthony city streets to begin Monday (May 3)
RIGBY - Construction on St. Anthony city streets will begin Monday (May 3), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will resurface the U.S. 20 business loop in and northeast of St. Anthony. The project will include milling (removing pavement) from the existing surface, leveling the base with a layer of asphalt plant mix (new pavement), placing a reinforcing paving fabric and then overlaying the fabric with a second layer of asphalt plant mix. The contractor also will seal-coat (apply asphalt and rock chips) to the new pavement.
The project will improve safety and comfort for motorists. It also will extend the life of the road surface.
Work will take place 24 hours per day on weekdays, with milling at night and paving during the day. The contractor obtained permission from city officials to work at night to speed the operation. The project is scheduled for completion in late May.
Crews will then resurface U.S. 20 and Idaho 47 on Main Street in Ashton, following the same process as in the St. Anthony project. The Ashton work is scheduled for completion in late June.
During construction, travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 miles per hour. Motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
At all times, drivers should watch for construction workers, equipment, merging traffic and uneven surfaces. Drivers also are advised to obey all traffic signs.
The transportation department awarded the $1.95 million contract to Knife River Corporation's southern Idaho division in Boise.
In preparation for the road‑preservation project in St. Anthony, Knife River mailed letters to property owners along the U.S. 20 business loop (Bridge Street as it runs through town) on what to expect during the project. The letter says milling at night will hasten completion.
The letter requests that residents avoid parking along Bridge Street during construction.
