Timmerman Rest Area reconstruction beginning Monday
SHOSHONE -  The reconstruction of the Timmerman Rest Area at the junction of U.S. 20 and Idaho 75 is slated to begin Monday, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The rest area will be closed for the duration of the project, lasting through the summer months.

Currently, the Timmerman Rest Area is restricted by parking area and size of the bathroom facility and requires several enhancements to provide adequate service for the long-term growth of traffic and visitors to the facility.

Improvements to the rest area have been designed to accommodate growth and additional traffic for at least 20 years. The U.S. 20 and Idaho 75 corridors are expected to see a 49 percent and 47 percent growth in traffic, respectively, over the next 20 years.

Among the planned enhancements will be an expanded bathroom facility that includes 10 restroom stalls and accommodations for family usage, an expanded and improved parking area, and ADA accessible parking, ramps and restroom facilities. Also addressed with the construction will be improvements to the sanitary sewer and lagoons, as well as improved storm water drainage to the adjacent stream.

Closure of the facility to all traffic and public parking is required during construction to maintain a safe and efficient work zone. The project is scheduled for completion in September.

Barry Hayes Construction of Idaho Falls is the contractor for the $2 million reconstruction.
