Slope stabilization to improve safety along U.S. 93 between Carmen and North Fork begins Monday (May 10)
RIGBY ‑ Slope stabilization to improve motorist safety along U.S. 93 between Carmen and North Fork will begin Monday (May 10), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The project is scheduled for completion June 4.

Working 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, crews will remove loose rock from slopes and install rockfall mesh. The project will be from Tower Creek Road to beyond 4th of July Creek Road (milepost 317‑324) on U.S. 93.

Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes as flaggers stop traffic for work. Travel will be reduced to one lane.

One three‑man team of professional rock scalers will repel down the rocky slopes to dislodge loose rock and drape the rock face with wire mesh to prevent future rock slides from reaching the road. Crews also will seed native grasses to deter erosion, helping stabilize the slopes.

Motorists should watch for rock on the road and for construction equipment along the highway.

ITD conducts slope stabilization each year to reduce falling rock and to prevent it from reaching the road.
