Begin summer flying with a Safe Pilot program

BOISE - The summer flying season kicks off with Safe Pilot Program seminars planned for Coeur d'Alene, Nampa and Idaho Falls this month, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

ITD's Division of Aeronautics is sponsoring the meetings, dubbed "We're Seein' Spots...!!," as part of its nine-month safety program on aerial searches for missing and overdue aircraft. Seminars will cover Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT), digital satellite trackers (SPOT), ITD Aeronautics' responsibilities during a search and a pilot's responsibilities before a search.

Meetings are planned for:

- Tuesday, May 18, 7 p.m., at the Coeur d'Alene Airport in Jerry Rose's Hangar. A potluck dinner begins at 6 p.m.

- Thursday, May 20, 7 p.m., at the Nampa Airport in the Avcenter Hangar.

- Tuesday, May 25, 8 p.m., at the Idaho Falls Airport in the new Aeromark Hangar. A potluck dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.

"Drive in, fly in or walk in, but don't miss this meeting," said Frank Lester, ITD Division of Aeronautics safety/education coordinator.

"Regardless of whether or not you are an aviator, this is an excellent opportunity to meet aviators, engage in some social hangar flying and talk safety," he explained.

The seminars qualify for Federal Aviation Administration Wings credit.
