UPDATE: Idaho 13 near Kooskia latest flooding closure
BOISE
- A 13-mile stretch of Idaho 13 near Kooskia and its junction with Idaho 14 in Idaho County is the latest highway closure related to flooding, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
What started as a mudslide became standing water of 2-3 feet deep across the roadway, prompting closure of the highway between mileposts 11 and 24. Crews are on-site assessing the damage and clearing the hazard.
As reported earlier, a
two-block segment
of the U.S. 95 Spur south of Payette closed because of about 18 inches
of standing water on the highway.
The high Payette River water
level also continues to pose a threat, but at last report the river had
receded
about a foot since the peak Sunday night. Heavy rainfall also loosened
soil
in many locations, creating a rockfall hazard for highways near
mountains or hillside
