Project to improve pedestrian facilities on Idaho 5 in St. Maries to begin Monday
COEUR D'ALENE - Crews will begin work Monday
(June 21) on a project to improve pedestrian facilities
along Idaho 5 in St. Maries.
The project is sponsored by the city of St. Maries, and the contract is being administered by the Idaho Transportation Department. Work is expected to be complete by Aug. 6.
Work will be done Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. No work will be done on weekends. The highway will be reduced to one lane during work hours, and re-opened to two-way traffic during non-work hours. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work-zone area.
Crews will be widening the roadway to the south to accommodate the construction of a sidewalk from 20th Street to the Fairgrounds entrance (23rd St.). The pedestrian approaches will be built to the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Vehicle approaches also will be constructed.
The contractor for this $208,000 project is SAFCO Equipment and Construction, of Hayden.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay
attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other
penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit
511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
