U.S. 30 road work east of Murtaugh begins next week
TWIN FALLS - A road preservation project on U.S. 30 east straddling the Twin Falls and Cassia County line is expected to begin on Monday (June 21), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will begin preparation as soon as Monday to surface grind the roadway in advance of a treatment called a Stress Absorbing Layer of Straight Asphalt (SALSA). The roadway from about 4775 East Road in Twin Falls County to near 200 South Road in Cassia County will be covered with the stress-absorbing layer, overlaid with asphalt, and completed with a seal coat.
Traffic on U.S. 30 will be reduced to one lane during work hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The treatment is expected to improve smoothness and increase longevity of the nine-mile section of roadway.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through the work zone and increase following distance to prevent cracked windshields on the seal-coated roadway. Drivers should watch for flaggers and be prepared for delays of as much as 15 minutes. The speed limit will be reduced throughout the construction zone to 45 mph during work hours and after the seal coat.
Kloepffer Inc., of Paul, is the contractor for the $1.4 million preservation project. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-July.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
