TWIN FALLS: Washington Street construction from Filer to Pole Line beginning next week
TWIN FALLS - North Washington Street is about to undergo its biggest facelift yet with the reconstruction between Filer Avenue and Pole Line Road set to begin as soon as Wednesday (June 23), the Idaho Transportation Department  announced.

The reconstruction and widening of 1.1 miles of Washington Street from just north of Filer Avenue to near Cheney Drive will connect widened sections at both ends and complete a large section of improvements to the roadway by the city of Twin Falls.

Crews will begin with excavation, reconstruction of the roadway, and installation of a new traffic signal near the intersection of Washington Street and North College Road. Work will begin at this location because the contractor is required by the city of Twin Falls to complete improvements near the intersection prior to the beginning of the school year. Crews also will begin roadway construction throughout the remainder of the work zone beginning next week.

The new roadway will include a storm-water drainage system, center median with left turn bays, bicycle lanes, new sidewalk, illumination and traffic signals.

Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction for the duration of construction. Drivers are reminded to use extreme caution in the work zone, be mindful of workers and equipment, and follow all traffic control signs. Drivers should be prepared for altering traffic patterns throughout the duration of the project.

DEBCO Construction, of Orofino, is the contractor for the $6.5 million project sponsored by the city of Twin Falls. The federally-funded project is administered by ITD. Road work is expected to be complete by December.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
