Fifth Street to be closed at Overland Avenue Wednesday
BURLEY - West Fifth Street will be closed to traffic at its intersection with Overland Avenue on Wednesday (June 23) as crews complete excavation, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The sub-base reconstruction, expected to last only one day, will close only the western portion of the intersection. All traffic will be detoured to 5th Street via 3rd or 4th Streets and Miller Avenue. The road will be closed from approximately 8 a.m. through 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The intersection will remain open to north-south traffic without interruption, and 5th Street east of Overland also will remain open. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-October.
When complete, the reconstruction project will eliminate the frontage roads and feature a wider roadway with enhanced turn bays. It also will include a stormwater collection system, restructured and improved business access, new bicycle lanes and a new signal at 3rd Street.
Drivers are reminded to follow all temporary traffic control devices through the construction zone. Motorists also are encouraged to watch for hazards and be cautious of workers and equipment operating near the road.
Knife River Corporation Northwest of Boise is the contractor for the $3.13 million project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
