Traffic restriction on Washington Street in Twin Falls begins Thursday
TWIN FALLS - Reconstruction of Washington Street North between Filer Avenue and Pole Line Road will begin with installation of traffic-control signs and barrels on Thursday (June 24), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will restrict traffic to one lane in each direction throughout the construction zone in preparation for the start of roadway excavation, which is expected to begin on Friday. The reconstruction and widening of 1.1 miles of Washington Street from near Filer Avenue to near Cheney Drive will connect widened sections at both ends.

Crews will begin work primarily near the intersection of Washington Street and North College Road with excavation, reconstruction of the roadway, and installation of a new traffic signal. Reconstruction also will start throughout the work zone along with realignment of several utilities.

The new roadway will include a storm-water drainage system, center median with left-turn bays bicycle lanes, new sidewalk, illumination and traffic signals.

DEBCO Construction of Orofino is the contractor for the $6.5 million project sponsored by the city of Twin Falls. The federally funded project is administered by ITD.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply.
