Signal at North College, Washington Street being removed Friday in preparation for intersection work
TWIN FALLS - Planned changes to the intersection of Washington Street and North College Road will require moving the temporary traffic signal controlling the intersection, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Removal of the signal on Friday (June 25) will allow the contractor the entire right-of-way to begin the reconstruction of the intersection. Stop signs for east-west traffic will be placed at the intersection. North-south traffic will be allowed to travel through the intersection much like it was before the signal was installed. Drivers will need to be prepared for a temporary closure as crews lower the signals.

As part of the 1.1-mile roadway reconstruction project between Filer Avenue and Cheney Drive, a new signal will be installed at the intersection. Construction of the signal and roadway near the intersection is expected to be complete before the beginning of the school year.

Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction to prepare for excavation beginning Friday. The new roadway will include a storm water drainage system, center median with left turn bays, bicycle lanes, new sidewalks, illumination and traffic signals.

DEBCO Construction, of Orofino, is the contractor for the $6.5 million project sponsored by the city of Twin Falls. ITD will administer the federally funded project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply
