Hope railroad bridge on Idaho 200 to be rehabilitated in project this fall; apparent low bidder announced
COEUR D'ALENE - Westway Construction is the apparent low bidder on a project to rehabilitate the Idaho 200 Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge at Hope, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
To lessen the impact to motorists and area residents, work will not begin until after Labor Day. The project is expected to be complete by mid-October.
The top layer of concrete on the bridge deck will be
removed and replaced with a new concrete surface. Bridge expansion joints also will be repaired.
Idaho 200 will be closed and traffic detoured onto the Idaho 200 Business Loop through Hope and East Hope. The business loop is part of the state highway system.
To accommodate detour traffic, the current width of the business loop roadway will be resurfaced and striped. Minor repairs will be made to Strong Creek Bridge. Parking also will be slightly altered to safely maintain two-way traffic.
The speed limit will be 25 miles per hour. The contractor also may use flaggers to guide traffic through the work zone area.
Westway Construction, of Airway Heights, Washington, bid $1.3 million.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
