Hagerman Rest Area reconstruction begins next week
SHOSHONE - The reconstruction of the Hagerman Rest Area, located on U.S. 30 south of Hagerman, is scheduled to begin Tuesday (July 6).
The Idaho Transportation Department advises that the rest area will be closed for the remainder of the summer and into autumn as crews rebuild the restroom facility.
The current restroom facility does not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The existing building will be demolished to make room for a new ADA-compliant facility to meet future needs.
The rest area, built in 1966, is a popular stop for travelers driving between Interstate 84 and U.S. 93. Reconstruction will not include expansion of the site and the parking area will maintain its current configuration.
In addition to the new restroom facility, reconstruction will include ADA-compliant curb, gutter and sidewalks, and new picnic pads and tables. A new sanitary sewer system, reconstructed irrigation system and an overlay of the parking lot also will be completed.
Closure of the facility to all traffic and public parking is required during construction to maintain a safe and efficient work area. The project is scheduled for completion in October.
Starr Corporation of Twin Falls is the contractor for the $432,000 reconstruction project.
