REMINDER: New SPUI signal to arrive at Vista tonight; expect overnight closure and traffic changes
BOISE - Vista Avenue will be closed tonight (Tuesday, July 6) between the I-84 east- and westbound ramps while the Idaho Transportation Department installs a 125-foot-long traffic signal for the future Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI).
Lane restrictions will begin at 9 p.m. All lanes across the bridge will be
closed from 11:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning (July 7).
ITD advises airport-bound traffic to allow for extra driving time in anticipation of the closure. Motorists are advised to use detour routes to access north and south Vista Avenue. For more information on the detour routes, please click here to access ITD's Facebook page and a detour map. Flaggers will direct traffic at each intersection and at on- and off-ramps near the airport.
The 13,000 lb. signal will be lifted into place by crane. It has 12 signal heads that will direct all traffic at the Vista Interchange. It will take several weeks for crews to wire and test the signal. The new signal will be operational in late July or early August.
Motorists will continue to use temporary signals and expect intermittent lane restrictions on Vista Avenue until the interchange project is completed later this summer.
The Vista Interchange is a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI), which is designed to move high volumes of traffic quickly and efficiently. This is the first SPUI in the state of Idaho. Another SPUI is currently being built at I-84 and Ten Mile Road in Meridian.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
