Construction on U.S. 20 west of Idaho Falls to start next week
RIGBY ‑ Construction on U.S. 20 west of Idaho Falls will start next week, as early as Monday (July 12), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Crews will resurface an 18‑mile stretch of U.S. 20 from Cinder Butte Road in Idaho Falls to the Bonneville‑Bingham county line.

During construction, motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The speed limit in work areas will be reduced to 45 mph.

Commercial vehicles will be restricted to 16 feet in width.

Resurfacing will improve traffic safety and riding comfort, and extend the life of the driving surface. It is scheduled for completion in October.

Paving will include a seal coat of asphalt and crushed rock.

Drivers should watch for construction workers and equipment and obey all traffic signs.

Work hours will accommodate commuter traffic to and from the Idaho National Laboratory.

HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, is the contractor on the $3.6 million project.

The Idaho State Police reminds drivers that moving violations in work zones are fined at double the rate of violations elsewhere.
