ITD and Idaho law enforcement partner to stop aggressive driving

BOISE - Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is partnering with law enforcement agencies across Idaho to keep motorists safe by funding increased aggressive driving high-visibility patrols July 15-26.

The effort is part of the department's commitment to achieving a goal of no deaths on Idaho highways.

"Tailgating, changing lanes without warning, speeding, running red lights or stop signs, following too closely or failing to yield are poor decisions and clear indicators of aggressive driving," said Cecilia Arritola with ITD's Office of Highway Operations and Safety.

"Any one of these behaviors can lead to serious injury or death," she said. "It is not ok to drive aggressively, even if you are in a hurry to get somewhere."

Drivers should be aware of what aggressive driving is, understand the consequences and choose to make safe driving choices, Arritola explained.

"Concentrate on driving," she said. "Relaxing and being considerate of other drivers will allow everyone to make it home safely."

In 2009, 52 percent of Idaho's fatal aggressive driving crashes involved only one vehicle.
