Idaho 57 paving, bridge work scheduled for August

COEUR D'ALENE - Work is scheduled to begin in August on an Idaho 57 paving project and work on the Upper West Branch Priest River Bridge, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

An 18-mile-long section of Idaho 57 will be paved to prolong the life of the roadway. In addition, deck work will be done on the bridge to prolong its life.

Crews will begin setting up traffic-control measures next week.

Work on the Upper West Branch Priest River Bridge will begin Monday (Aug. 9). Traffic will be reduced to one lane, which will require a width restriction of 10 feet for vehicles. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.

The bridge-repair work is expected to take about 25 days.

Paving operations are tentatively scheduled to begin the last week in August or the beginning of September. No work will be done during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Intermittent lane closures are to be expected.  Pilot cars will guide traffic through the work zone area.

The contractor for the $3 million project is Interstate Concrete and Asphalt, of Sandpoint. Work is expected to be completed by Oct. 22.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
