Fourth lane to open on westbound I-84 next week near Orchard Interchange in preparation for traffic shift
BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department will open a fourth lane on westbound I-84 by Wednesday morning (Aug. 4), from just west of Orchard to the Cole/Overland Interchange, where there is already a fourth lane westbound.

Crews will have the fourth lane on I-84 open by 5 a.m. Wednesday, just west of the Orchard Interchange and only on westbound I-84. Opening the lane will accommodate a coming traffic shift in late August.

Motorists also are advised to expect intermittent lane closures between the Cole and Broadway interchanges to continue from Aug. 2 to Aug. 17.

One east- and westbound lane will be closed in both directions at night (10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights, and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends) between the Cole and Broadway interchanges.

ITD is widening the interstate to four lanes in both directions between the Cole and Broadway interchanges.

The speed limit is 55 mph, and a width restriction of 14 feet is in effect.

ITD and the Idaho State Police advise motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
