Construction to close Del Rio Bridge east of St. Anthony starting Monday (Aug. 16)
RIGBY ‑ Construction will close the Del Rio Bridge on the U.S. 20 business loop east of St. Anthony starting Monday (Aug. 16), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will repair and resurface the bridge deck, applying a new layer of asphalt to improve the riding surface. Work is expected to be completed and the bridge reopened by Friday evening (Aug. 20).
In May, the transportation department postponed resurfacing the bridge until fledglings in an Osprey nest on the bridge were able to fly on their own.
The department is considering eventually relocating the nest, since the bridge will have to be replaced in the future. The transportation department has listed the bridge in its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for possible replacement in 2014.
ITD has placed portable electronic message boards on U.S. 20 to notify the public of next week's planned closure. Motorists may want to consider taking an alternative route to travel between North St. Anthony and 2600 East in Fremont County.
Drivers should watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.
