Construction at U.S. 20 and Old Butte Road to start next week
RIGBY ‑ Construction to improve the intersection of U.S. 20 and Old Butte Road (26th West) on the west side of Idaho Falls is planned to begin as early as Monday (Aug. 23), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will widen the north and south sides of the intersection, install a traffic signal and add a right‑turn bay on U.S. 20 to south Old Butte Road. The project includes new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, a shared‑use bike/pedestrian path, storm drains and light poles.
The highway occasionally will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction, but the speed limit on U.S. 20 will remain at 45 miles per hour.
Old Butte Road on the south side of the intersection will close, and traffic will be diverted to Bellin Road. Old Butte Road on the north side of the intersection will remain open.
Work is expected to be completed by Dec. 1.
ITD is administering the $1.3 million federally funded project for the city of Idaho Falls. The contractor is HK Contractors Inc. of Idaho Falls.
Drivers should watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.
