Construction under way on Rainey Creek Bridge in Swan Valley
RIGBY ‑ Construction is under way on the Rainey Creek Bridge in Swan Valley, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews are replacing the bridge on Idaho 31 that is about 100 yards north of its junction with U.S. 26 in Swan Valley. Traffic is being detoured around the bridge on Ranger Station Road east of Idaho 31.
The new bridge is scheduled for completion on Nov. 19. Work will include repaving approaches to the new bridge. The old bridge, which is currently being removed, is nearly 75 years old. Transportation department records show it was built in 1936.
The new concrete bridge will be 51 feet long. Next week, crews will drive steel piles 32 feet into the ground as footings for new bridge abutments, which will be poured this fall.
The transportation department awarded Eagle Rock Timber Inc., of Idaho Falls, the $500,000 contract for the project.
